Playing Lo Romero: plan the round around terrain, heat and etiquette

Lo Romero is an inland golf course within Pilar de la Horadada municipality. Its best-known feature is the eighteenth green on an island, but a safe and enjoyable round depends more on the whole route, the day's weather and the player's pace than on one finishing photograph.

Know what you are booking

Confirm the current tee time, number of holes, handicap requirements, dress expectations, hire equipment and buggy policy directly with the course. Package descriptions and old articles can outlive the arrangement they advertised. Ask about maintenance work and temporary greens when it would affect the reason for the visit.

Study the current scorecard before selecting tees. Carry distances, not the colour or pride attached to a tee marker, should guide the choice. The island green ends the round, but earlier elevation changes, water and wind deserve the same planning.

Heat is part of course management

Open fairways provide limited shade. Choose an early time during hot periods, carry water and use sun protection. Stop if a player becomes confused, faint or unwell. A buggy reduces walking but does not remove heat exposure, and it must stay on authorised routes.

Play the landscape responsibly

Repair pitch marks, replace divots and rake bunkers.
Keep pace with the group ahead and let course staff manage delays.
Do not retrieve a ball from water or closed habitat.
Follow local rules on out-of-bounds areas and protected planting.

The surrounding Campo de Cartagena is an agricultural landscape with limited water. Course appearance changes with season and irrigation policy. Green playing surfaces should not be presented as proof of a naturally lush local climate.
